On June 12th, my wife, my 2 yr old son, and myself set off for Schitterbahn (very early in the morning) in order to arrive at openning. We met my brother and his wife as well as my in-laws there to spend the day. It was a blast!! We started off in the kiddie areas for my son and he had a great time. We soon left my son with the in laws and my brother, myself and our more beautiful halves headed out to ride some ';adult'; rides!! We had a good time doing this. The lines were not long and were not crowded - this is all in the old park, mind you. All of the tube chutes were a blast as always!! After lunch, we decided to let my 2 year old ride his first ';big boy'; ride!! We rode Raging River and he was smiles from ear to ear the entire ride. He was never scared and loved the entire ride!! We later rode the new tube chute ';Congo'; which was great for theatrics but lacking on speed and thrills. It did have one large drop, which they made my son do by himself, but otherwise it was about the ';show.'; Later that afternoon, we went to the east side (new side) and played in the Torrent River which is really fun. This is like a lazy river but with waves and rapids!! My son loved it and wouldn%26#39;t ride in a tube - he swam with me in his life jacket, which is free for kids!! We then decided to ride one of the slides there and that is when time began to crawl!! The lines are ridiculously long over there and the rides are not all that fantastic!! Unless you are one of those people that have to do them all, avoid these, although the uphill coaster is really fun. We sat in line for nearly an hour and a half for a 20 second ride. To me it is not worth it. Otherwise, the lines were very short and fast throughout the park.
We left there and went to the condo we rented on Canyon Lake. It is called Still Water Ranch. The rooms are very nicely decorated and very cozy with everything included such as pots, pans, silverware, cookware, towels, rags, soap, shampoo and lotion. We were overwhelmed with all that was available. Also, they have a very nice outdoor kitchen area with a gas grill and outdoor fireplace. There was a sand volleyball court and basketball court. There are four units at this complex so sharing the outdoor activities was not a problem at all. The main deterrent from this place was the fact that there was not a bathroom upstairs, where all of the rooms are. This was crazy but easy to overlook with all of the added anemities.
On Saturday, we wanted to rent a boat. We first went to Sunchaser Marine where we stood forever until someone finally helped us. Their rates were high in my opinion (350 dollars for four hours) and they dropped you off at the ramp, and picked you up. You were not allowed to dock your boat. On top of that, all of their boats looked old and tattered. Since we didn%26#39;t get a great feel for this place, we decided not to rent from them. We went down to Canyon Lake Marina and were pleased with the professional service, good prices, and great boats!! This place rents by the hour (85 per hour) and their boats are really nice. The staff there is very helpful and respondent to all of your questions!! We had a great time riding, swimming and tubing in the boat!! I recommend this place to you if you want to rent a boat.
Out weekend went really great!! Canyon Lake is a really nice place to vacation and avoid the ';college'; crowd but still have a great time. The closer you are to the river, the more kids you will be near. If you are looking for drunk college kids, my trip is not what you are looking for. If you are looking for a fun, fast and relaxing vacation, look into the places I have written about.
Schlitterbahn / Canyon Lake Trip Report
I am quiet unfamiliar with the phenomenon ';drunken collegekids'; but I found it in more than one post here. When and where are they showing up?
Schlitterbahn / Canyon Lake Trip Report
Nice to get some details on an area we don%26#39;t usually hear about. Sounds like lots of fun! Thanks for taking the time to post both positive and negative.
