Between New Braunfels and Fort Worth.....

We%26#39;ll be staying in New Braunfels July 15-18. Since the 18th is on a Saturday, we%26#39;re looking to add one more day on our stay, but would like it to be in the direction of DFW. Anything worth a night%26#39;s stay between NB %26amp; DFW? 3 women %26amp; a 2 year old will be the travelers.

Thanks.

Austin is the most obvious choice, but that wouldn%26#39;t really get you very far from New Braunfels before stopping again. How about Waco? There are several museums there and a nice little zoo that may be of interest to the three of you and the two year old.

Waco might be a thought. WHat could there be to do in Austin? I%26#39;ll look on the Austin forum in a bit. The times we%26#39;ve been to Austin, we%26#39;ve always been in the Roundrock/Georgetown area and been with a group of high school kids...Have I missed something in Austin that would suit this traveling bunch?

up 281 is Glenn Rose with a nice drive through wildlife park and state park with dinosaur tracks.

There%26#39;s lots to do in Austin! It%26#39;s the state capital, so you could visit the Capitol building and grounds, both of which are lovely. There is the Texas State History Museum (maybe not that exciting for a two year old), several art musuems, a zoo, a children%26#39;s museum, a train ride through Zilker Park, and lots of great restaurants. Some of what Austin is known for -- live music and outdoor activites -- may be a little difficult with a two year old, but if you have never been to Austin proper, it%26#39;s worth a stop, even if you just stop in for a couple of hours and visit the Capitol.

Here is the website for the Waco zoo (Cameron Park):

It%26#39;s a great little zoo... very easy with a 2 year old.

Also, the Mayborn Museum is a great hands on museum for little ones, and it has a really interesting exhibit about Leonardo da Vinci going on right now:

Both of these activities are close to hotels, and Waco is very easy to maneuver with kids. :)

Thanks guys, I appreciate all teh ideas!

I vote Austin...just 3 hours from DFW and a heck of a lot more to do than Waco...South Congress shopping, restaurants, and cafes. Museums mentioned above. Stay at the Austin Motel on South Congress for a different kind of overnight.

I agree that Austin is a great place for a stopover, as noted above, but a nigiht on South Congress with a 2 year old in tow may not be a great night. The Austin Motel is in a part of town that sees a lot of traffic on weekend nights, so if you%26#39;re planning to hit the sack early with the kiddo, it may not be a good choice.

I agree with MrTed%26#39;s posts but also think that you would want to get further than Austin before you decide to stop and spend the night somewhere. If you like shopping, there is a fantastic little town to stop in that has a historic area full of little shops and restaraunts - Salado, TX. I%26#39;ve been here and it is quite charming
