What's the chance of a beer at 20 yrs old?

I%26#39;m looking forward to a trip to Dallas/Fort Worth in July, together with my 20yr old son.

Naturally, a cold beer now and again would help to deal with the heat, as well as enjoying the different brews for their own merit!

I understand, that so long as he is with me, it is legal for him to drink a beer bought by me. However it seems many places enforce a 21yr old limit regardless of a parent being there.

Can anyone tell me just how likely it will be for him to get a beer in Texas, or even make any recommendedations?

Cheers!

Highly likely if you buy. Lone Star %26amp; Shiner Bock.

Don%26#39;t think you will have any problems........

While TX alcoholic beverage law states that a parent may buy for a minor, it is always up to the establishment to enforce a more stringent rule, should they wish. It definitely depends on the venue. Most restaurants will allow you to order for the table. I don%26#39;t think Billy Bob%26#39;s will allow it, but other clubs might. You can always call ahead to check.

Keep in mind that in TX most clubs/bars will let your child go in with you, which is way different from most of the rest of the US. In most other states, if you aren%26#39;t 21, you aren%26#39;t going in, period.

The Angry Dog has lots of beer choices, is a great bar, and the last time I had a minor child with me allowed them to be served.

Check out the Flying Saucer in Fort Worth or Addison and the Ginger Man in FW or Dallas

Thank you for the encouragement. I%26#39;ll keep a tab so he can reimburse me back in U.K.!!

I%26#39;ve tried Shiner Bock myself before; an excellent beer, similar to Newcastle Brown here, but served MUCH colder in TX. Hopefully we%26#39;ll get to sample the%26#39;Lone Star%26#39; too.

Thanks, Pete

Hey Guys, I%26#39;m really grateful for the info. and recommendations.

We%26#39;re looking forward to our visit EVEN more, now.

If anyone needs some good pub recommendations near to Portsmouth, UK, I%26#39;ll gladly provide.(So long as you%26#39;re 18+, you%26#39;re legally served!)

Thanks%26#39;

Pete

Hampshire-Pete, As others have posted correctly here, it is legal for you to buy a drink for your 20 year old son. Each establishment has sway as to whether they will actually serve him. If you get shot down in one place just move on to the next! ;-)

One thing you will need is to both have identification showing you have the same surname. Passports should cover that. If he lives with you that would be even stronger evidence of father-son relationship. Do British driving licenses have home addressess on them? Show that if possible.

Couple rules regarding this: You must order the beer for him, receive it from the bartender, and give it to your son. You can%26#39;t sit at the bar, but rather at a table in the bar. Lastly, you can%26#39;t leave him alone with his beer. If you go to the bathroom, etc, either he or all the drinks go with you.

As I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;re aware how freakin%26#39; hot it will be here in July, I%26#39;m sure these little details won%26#39;t deter you too much from a few cold delicious pints together. Finally, I actually own a bar in downtown Fort Worth, so I know of at least one place you%26#39;ll be able to drink! If you%26#39;ll PM me I will tell you the name and address. It%26#39;s a regulars, local place. Not corporate at all. Have a fun trip....

Thanks for the advice OWildeFan. Maybe we will get to try a pint at yours!
