When we visit Austin June 20-27 we%26#39;ll be staying at the Austin Motel -- I%26#39;ve read up on food %26amp; music in the travel forums and guidebooks, but would love some local Austinites%26#39; advice on best restaurants and music venues in the neighborhood -- thanks!

What kind of food are you looking for? You have a lot of choices. The immediate area has a lot - Jo%26#39;s Coffee, Home Slice Pizza, Amy%26#39;s Ice Cream, Guero%26#39;s, Vespaio and their cafe - Enoteca. And all within a few blocks of the hotel. You are close to Barton Springs with Chuy%26#39;s and Shady Grove, I also like Zax which has a good beer selection over closer to the river (and Aussies for great burgers).

For music, the Continental Club is across the street from the Austin Motel -- http://www.continentalclub.com/Austin.html

I know you%26#39;re traveling with kids, and I%26#39;m not sure if they have all ages shows, but they do have afternoon shows on Saturdays, so they may allow kids with parents for those.

Guero%26#39;s, mentioned above as a restaurant in the neighborhood, often has live music in the evenings as well.

Lamberts has good food and often has live music so that might cover both for you.

The South Congress Cafe and Vespaio are both quite nearby with really good food. I%26#39;ve always liked Shady Grove%26#39;s food pretty well and it%26#39;s a really cool place with a great patio area.
