Planning to visit the area in June or July, was needing some recommendations on horseback rides without actually staying at a dude ranch. Also, how is the tubing here compared to New Braunfels? Would prefer some calm tubing since we will have children with us. Thanks.
Horseback Riding and Tubing
The river running through Bandera is the Medina. It is my favorite river mainly because we have family with property on the river. I%26#39;m not very familiar with public access points but there is a public park at the river crossing just north of Bandera.

The lower Guadalupe tends to have 20 somethings and lots of drinking. It has shallows and rapids and slow deep water. I would get a tube with a bottom for this trip.
The Comal, has a slightly older crowd, and slightly less drinking. It runs through a pretty urban (by river standards - houses and condos.) It has deep water so very little danger of bumping your bottom and a cement tube chute that is loads of fun.
For a float that鈥檚 a little more off the beaten path try starting at the Bergheim Campgrounds. We did this about 8 weeks ago, six of us took off from work at about one o鈥檆lock, drove up there, and were on the river by 2:30. We encountered only 3 other groups, and had a great time. The float took about 3 1/2 hours. We take homemade sangria, snacks and water. Life is good!
Tubes were $12 each which includes the shuttle back to the campground. They hold your car keys for you 鈥?don鈥檛 ever take them on the river with you.

For all of the rivers, they are natural and change, they do have dangerous spots, keep alert and use common sense and you%26#39;ll be fine.
