Dinner & Parking Downtown/Riverwalk?

Hello! I am going to San Antonio for a conference next week. Unfortunately we are only there for 3 days and will only have evenings to do any sightseeing or activities.

We are staying in the La Cantera area and will have rental cars. How long will it take us to get downtown around 5 or 6pm for dinner? I%26#39;m hoping traffic will be leaving the city! Any suggestions on where to park? Where to eat dinner and maybe walk around in the evenings?

Thanks! Our time is limited but I%26#39;d at least like to get a feel for San Antonio and hopefully one day I%26#39;ll be back...

Dinner %26amp; Parking Downtown/Riverwalk?

First step is to determine what kind of dinner. The hands down winner for on the River Walk is Budros www.boudros.com But there are many other great spots downtown, near the river, up by La Cantera. Do you have any preferences.

No real preferences for cuisine, but nothing too expensive and probably somewhere that could accommodate a larger group...

Someone told me about a Rudy%26#39;s BBQ near La Cantera...any info on that??

Thanks :)

Rudy%26#39;s would be closer. The original location is in the opposite direction of downtown. You would continue on I 10 west towards El Paso..take Leon Springs exit...approx 4-5 miles outside of loop 1604. A mix of a BBQ joint and gas station. Turkey breast and creamed corn are my favs.

Most of the traffic will be leaving downtown..not to say you won%26#39;t encounter traffic, but it is much easier going towards town than leaving. I would suggest Market Square for any parties of 10 or more. 3 of the famous restaurants (owned by the same family) will be able to accomodate a larger group. Mi Tierra, La Margarita or Pico De Gallo.

Rudy%26#39;s is an excellent choice. Good Bar-B-Que go through the line, order by the pound, butcher paper for plates. Real Texas experience.

Another great restaurant that might fit the bill is Po Po%26#39;s http://www.poporestaurant.com/ a little further north (west on 10) This is good home cooking regular sit-down. Great Hill Country setting.

On the Riverwalk I totally agree with Boudro%26#39;s for a true TX feel with the guacamole prepared tableside with a Prickly Pear Margarita so yummy!!!! Biga on the Banks also a great choice %26amp; a very beautiful view of the river www.biga.com or in the Market Square area for a Tex Mex feel you may want to consider La Margarita www.lamargarita.com or Pico de Gallo www.picodegallo.com Also on the riverwalk you have some great steaks places that are very reasonable Saltgrass www.saltgrass.com %26amp; Texas Land %26amp; Cattle www.texaslandandcattle.com they are a local chain but do have great steaks + a happy hour %26amp; there are a couple of locations beside downtown on the RW.
