Is Schilo's your only German food recommendation?

Our whole family is traveling to SA in 2 weeks and we%26#39;re trying to plan our meals. One request from my sister is to eat German food. Did some research on this forum and I only saw recommendations for Schilo%26#39;s (which sounds amazing!!!). I just wanted to make sure no one had other suggestions??? We%26#39;re staying at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa and we%26#39;re visiting the Riverwalk, Natural Bridge, Witte museum, Alamo, and El Mercado for sure...maybe the zoo, botanical gardens and La Villita. Any suggestions for German food would be gretly appreciated.

thanks! Anna

Shilo%26#39;s is the best one in the downtown area.

Their is 1 in the NW area that is very good also it is Old World German Restaurant on 1546 Babcock Rd

Their is 1 in the Hill Country in Welfare that is worth the drive IMO very yummy Welfare Caf茅 in Welfare on 223 Waring Welfare Rd.

There are a couple in New Braunfels but I can%26#39;t remember the name, it%26#39;s been a while since we ate there.

Thanks so much!

Stop in Walburg on the way down -- there is no substitute for the real thing... I have not found any place in Texas that comes close.

It%26#39;s just north of Georgetown off IH-35.

There are a couple of places around town for German food, Schilos is good but not much of a choice beyound standard stuff. Goo place for a sandwich and cold beer, really.

Welfare Cafe, I do not understand why everyone thinks this place is great, the best, etc. Its not that good, IMO its just ok and I would not make a special trip for a meal there. If you are going to drive that far, go to PoPo%26#39;s and order fried chicken instead, better food and lower price.

Old World would be a good choice and its easy to get to.

I would second Walberg for food and music.

In New Braunfels is Oma%26#39;s Smokehouse

So if we go to Schilo%26#39;s do they offer a selection of schnitzels and wurst? Can we get things like red cabbage, spatzle, and german potato salad? We don%26#39;t need a huge menu but a good selection of the traditional dishes would be great! I%26#39;m assuming they have some Hefe Weis on tap or in bottles???

Schilo%26#39;s is a deli-style German resturant serving reubens, split pea soup, subs, bagels and lox. Try a frosty mug of their homemade root beer, or one of the German and local beers on tap. A fruit strudel and hunks of rich cheesecake will finish off any visit to Schilo%26#39;s.
