which hotel?

My three buddies and I will be flying into Dallas on7/23 to see a Texas Ranger game that nite and then will be hitting the road to San Antonio the next day. We are currently booked at the Hyatt Regency downtown. We picked this property because of its proximity to all the JFK related sites. WE will be arriving in Dallas late morning, so we figured this would give us enough time to check things out before the game. However, many of the reviews regarding the Hyatt are mixed at best. We will have a car,so driving would not be an issue. If anyone can recommend an alternate hotel that will allow us to stick to our plan and perhaps catch a bite to eat at Pappa%26#39;s Bros. Steakhouse(or a similar recommendation). Your input and advice is greatly appreciated!

which hotel?

You could try the Belmont Hotel - close to I-30 to get to the Rangers game.

And zip into downtown and eat at Stephan Pyles - some say their Cowboy Ribeye is the best in the city. I%26#39;m veg, so I wouldn%26#39;t know.

which hotel?

Pepper%26#39;s right, the Belmont would be great. The Magnolia is also pretty neat. Or you might choose to stay out in Arlington after the game. There%26#39;s a Crowne Plaza there, as well as all other type places like Holiday Inn Express, Hilton Garden Inn, etc.

I don%26#39;t at all like Pappas Bros. Steakhouse, or Nick %26amp; Sam%26#39;s, but lots of people do. If I wanted a good steak, I%26#39;d go where I always go--Bob%26#39;s Chophouse (the original on Lemmon). We ate at the III Forks in NYC and weren%26#39;t impressed (the chain%26#39;s home is here). You%26#39;ll have to have a very early dinner, though, to make a game.

It almost sounds like you%26#39;re aiming to do more than is possible in the time you%26#39;re going to have available.

  • Romantic Get Away

I have searched the forums and all the topics that came up with the word ';Romantic'; as the key word were either old or just for a place for dinner. I live in Phoenix and my girlfriend lives out near the Katy area. I will be coming back down to see her in the fall (Sept/Oct) time frame. I was hoping that TA would be able to help me surprise her with a truely romantic getaway. I really want to be able to surprise her, so I just can%26#39;t ask her to investigate this for us. So with that in mind, what would the recomendations be for a weekend to remember and the perfect spot for long distance lovers to rekindle the flame to last us until we get to see each other again? We have already done the San Antonio weekend trip and loved it, but was leaning more towards true romance. Maybe a B%26amp;B or some where away from the hustle and bustle of the city that would allow for ';us'; time? Would need to be within a comfortable drive from Katy area. Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Romantic Get Away

There are a number of B%26amp;Bs between Sealy and Brenham. I%26#39;d look towards Brenham, Chapel Hill (known for their B%26amp;Bs), or Independence for something quaint. If you don%26#39;t like antique shops, you won%26#39;t find much to do in the smaller towns besides going for a nice walk, but they are pretty little towns.

Brenham has a few more options, but it has been a while since I have hung out around there, so I couldn%26#39;t recommend anything current.

Also, there are some nice state parks (such as Brazos Bend) that are not far away. They may be another option...

The most romantic evenings in Houston usually involve a play or some other cultural event, but that doesn%26#39;t sound like what you are looking for.

Like anything else depends on your interests. Two places that come to mind - Artesian Lakes and a hotel / spa with a dinner and play. Artesian Lakes gets mixed reviews. It has been a long time since I have been there - so things could have changed. As far as a hotel - several, but in my opinion St. Regis would be the best. They do have week-end packages.

Never been to a B%26amp;B - but I have heard that there are several really nice B%26amp;B%26#39;s even within Houston.

Thanks for the help, actually leaning more towards getting out of the Houston Metro area and into the country. Really want the focus of the weekend to be on us and our relationship. Just want the surroundings to be as beautiful as she is. Small towns can be fun, walking along main street, holding hands, poking around different shops and stopping in the corner tavern for a beer and a sandwich. Not to worried about entertainment just someplace nice, quiet and secluded.

It might be a little far - but check out Gruene (pro Green). Nice small quaint town. Worth the drive.

if you like wine at all - you could visit the Texas Hill Country wineries west of Austin: http://www.texaswinetrail.com

They have a list of places to stay/B%26amp;B%26#39;s and some of the wineries have their own B%26amp;B

Is there a ferry to FL?

I did a little searching on google and the TA search bar - nothing turned up. Is there a ferry that goes from the southern part of Texas to the southern part of Florida? One I can bring our car on? I%26#39;m looking for a short cut over to the Keys. Thanks!

Is there a ferry to FL?

I do not know of one.

Is there a ferry to FL?

I%26#39;m guessing it%26#39;s about 900 miles between Galveston and the Keys (since it%26#39;s a 1200 mile drive from Galveston to Miami) You would need a pretty big boat to be able to go that distance. That is a long drive but it could be an interesting one for you if you have the time?
